Social Studies

The primary goal of social studies is to help students appreciate and understand the world in which they live – its people and culture. In the 4th grade, our focus is on various communities in the United States as well as from around the world. We learn about the history of the world. We learn about the history of the community and what the community is like today. Life skills such as map reading and understanding cause and effect are taught. Junior Achievement volunteers present a special unit on communities. In addition to learning about communities, we teach the history of Madison County. Physical education, music and the classroom studies are integrated and the end result is the Madison County musical. The fourth grade social studies curriculum provides an exciting framework for learning.
